St. Jean Pied de Port

After a harrowing drive over the Pyrennes, we spent the day at this absolutely lovely little village, where we enjoyed a communal meal in our "Gite". We collected our scallop shells at the pilgrim office, which are to be hung on our backpacks and will identify us as pilgrims. That will grant us entry to the many hostels, or "alberques" and special meal prices along the way.

Our accommodations are modest, but there is a great sense of unity with all the others that are undertaking this same journey.

Goodnight and here's hoping my body clock adjusts tonight!
